Wedding Save the Date
Etiquette He popped the
question, the ring is on your finger, and the date and
location have been set, now what?
Time to
tell the world!
Your first step will be to determine
your guest list and send out your Save the Dates. A Save the
Date announces to all your family and friends the date of
your big day and asks them to keep that day open especially
for you. This can be very useful for guests that will need
to travel long distances to attend the wedding and are
especially important if you are having a destination
wedding. Giving early notice to all who plan to attend gives
them the opportunity to request vacation from their
employer, allows time to make travel arrangements and can
save them a substantial amount of money by letting them make
their reservations early.
Here are a few
tips for sending out your Save the Dates:
-
As a
general rule Save the Dates should be mailed out 6
months before your wedding date and as early as 12-15
months in advance if you have many guests traveling from
out of town.
-
Be sure
to include both the bride and grooms names and the
wedding date and location on your Save the Date. Also
make sure to add any other information you feel will
assist your guests in making their plans (local hotels,
car rental info, special events, group discount codes,
etc.)
-
It’s
best to be clear about who is invited to the wedding
(plus ones and family needs to be addressed on the
cards.) Being up front about who is invited will give
guests time to figure out arrangements for their
children if the occasion is "adults-only".
-
You will also
want to include the wording "invitation to follow" or
something similar so that your guests will know that an
official wedding invitation will be mailed to them at a
later date.
A Save the Date is not meant to be a formal wedding
invitation, invitations will be sent out at a later date.
The purpose is simply to let your family and friends know
the actual date and location of the wedding so they can plan
ahead. Some of the more common Save the Dates items are
postcards or magnets; many will add a picture and/or provide
details that are sure to add that personal touch. There are
many styles to choose from but keep in mind that this will
be the first thing people see in regards to the style of
your wedding so you may want to make them fun, personal and
uniquely "you!”
